Division by Power of Two

Arbitrary hardware division requires massive combinational logic, but dividing by a constant power of two is implemented entirely through wire routing. The provided RTL takes an 8-bit unsigned input A and divides it by sixty-four to produce the 8-bit output Y. The synthesis tool evaluates this constant division and maps it directly to a logical right shift.

Examine the synthesized netlist and determine the hardware cost of this operation. Trace the wire connections from A to Y to verify how the tool handles the discarded bits and zero-padding.
