Signed vs Unsigned Comparison Failure

A temperature controller activates a heating element when the ambient temperature falls below a target threshold.

Expected behavior:

Heater must output 1 when the 4-bit signed 2's complement Temp is strictly less than the 4-bit unsigned Thresh. Otherwise, Heater must output 0.

Simulation shows Heater = 0 for input Temp = 1111 (-1 decimal) and Thresh = 0101 (5 decimal). The heater incorrectly shuts off when the temperature drops below zero. Inspect the circuit and correct the fault.

Constraints

  • Do not modify the input or output port definitions
  • Ensure the fix accounts for the full 4-bit 2's complement range of Temp
